Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on February 17, 2026, addressing civil rights advocacy and federal law enforcement oversight.
In her first post of the day, Salinas commemorated a prominent civil rights leader: “Reverend Jesse Jackson was a dedicated advocate who devoted his life to fighting for an America that reached true equality for all. We will continue his legacy towards ensuring that every person can live in peace, free from hate or discrimination.” (posted at 17:01 UTC).
Later that afternoon, Salinas shifted focus to government accountability. She stated: “I’m pushing back against Trump’s abuse of power and working to protect your rights. My new bill would hold ICE and CBP accountable for their egregious misconduct. Watch to learn more about my work for you “ (posted at 19:02 UTC).
Addressing concerns over immigration enforcement agencies, Salinas wrote: “ICE and CBP are terrorizing people. Their brutality needs to stop before another person gets hurt. That’s why @SenJeffMerkley and I are working to rein in ICE.” (posted at 19:51 UTC).
Andrea Salinas has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after previously holding office in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 through early 2023. Born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently residing in Tigard, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
