Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who has represented Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently addressed a range of social issues through a series of posts on her official Twitter account.
On September 8, 2025, Salinas commented on domestic violence statistics and federal funding decisions. She wrote, “Over 1 in 3 women will experience domestic violence in their lives. It’s disgusting to even suggest that what these women survived is not a real crime. President Trump is making America less safe for our mothers & daughters by rolling back federal funding that is meant to”.
Later the same day, she marked International Literacy Day with a post highlighting the importance of reading skills for children: “Today is International Literacy Day! When a child learns to read, they gain access to more than just stories. Literacy opens up a lifetime of knowledge and opportunities. I will keep working to deliver the tools that our children need to become lifelong readers and learners.”
On September 9, Salinas turned attention to firearm suicide prevention efforts: “Today is Firearm Suicide Prevention Day. We lose 74 people every day to firearm suicide in America. Storing your guns securely can help save lives. Check out these tips on how to protect yourself and loved ones with safe firearm storage.”
Salinas has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after previously holding office in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. Born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently residing in Tigard, she earned her BA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994.
