Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on October 8, 2025, to address ongoing concerns related to federal firefighters and health care policy during a government shutdown.
In a post published on October 8, Salinas highlighted the commitment of federal firefighters amid political gridlock: “Our federal firefighters keep serving, even during the Republicans’ government shutdown. This #FirePreventionWeek, we must ensure that our firefighters have the resources they need to keep our communities safe from these deadly blazes. (1/2) https://t.co/W4XyvNMreA”
She followed up by expressing support for legislation aimed at protecting firefighter pay: “That’s why I signed onto the Federal Firefighter Paycheck Protection Act to protect all federal firefighters during a shutdown. Read more about it here (2/2) https://t.co/CGXWDexzUG” The referenced bill seeks to ensure continued pay for federal firefighters if government funding lapses.
Later that day, Salinas addressed another policy issue in a separate post: “TODAY I will speak at the Steering & Policy Committee to share real stories from #OR06 about the consequences of not extending the ACA premium tax credits. Republicans: Come back to the table to reopen the government & prevent rising health care costs. Stay tuned to hear” Salinas signaled her intention to discuss the potential impact on health care affordability if certain provisions under the Affordable Care Act are not extended.
Andrea Salinas has served in Congress since 2023 and previously represented constituents in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. Born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently residing in Tigard, she holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
