Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on April 17, 2026, addressing legislative concerns and issues affecting children and education.
In her first post of the day, Salinas criticized recent House proceedings related to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). She wrote on April 17: “Speaker Johnson called the House back in the DEAD of night to vote on FISA, giving us hours to review their bill that would allow the government to spy on Americans without a warrant. It was a mess. I am committed to safeguarding Oregonians’ right to privacy and putting a stop”.
Later that afternoon, Salinas responded strongly to reports of child abuse involving vulnerable children. On April 17 she stated: “There are no words to describe how disgusting this is. Everyone involved in harming these vulnerable children when they were supposed to be protected must be held accountable. No child should ever have to endure abuse of any kind. Ever. This has to stop.”
In recognition of School Library Month, Salinas also highlighted the importance of libraries and librarians for students’ development. In her post from April 17 she said: “April is School Library Month Libraries, and the librarians who run them, are critical to student success. Beyond reading, libraries inspire questions, foster learning, and provide a space where students feel safe to explore ideas.”
Andrea Salinas has served as Oregon’s representative in Congress since 2023 after previously holding office in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 through 2023. She was born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently resides in Tigard at age 53. Salinas earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994.
