Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who has represented Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, used her social media platform on November 5, 2025, to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its effects.
In a post made at 19:49 UTC, Salinas shared her perspective on the current political situation: “Hear my thoughts as we head into the sixth week of the Republicans’ shutdown https://t.co/hvPDO2S1Mk”.
Later that evening, she addressed the broader impact of the shutdown, writing at 20:22 UTC: “We’re in the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. Workers are missing paychecks, families are struggling with health care costs, and children are going without food benefits — this is not an accomplishment we should be celebrating. Our nation is better than this.”
At 21:48 UTC, Salinas highlighted a constituent’s story affected by lapses in health coverage: “I recently spoke with Sue, whose premium will more than double thanks to Republicans’ inaction to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. As a kidney donor, she can’t risk losing coverage. Her story is heartbreaking — and preventable. (1/2) https://t.co/f6cTeNXoB”.
Andrea Salinas was born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently resides in Tigard. She earned her BA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994. Before joining Congress in 2023, she served in the Oregon House of Representatives for six years.
