Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who has represented Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, used her social media platform this week to address issues ranging from public land protections to the rising costs of childcare and mental health care access.
On May 13, Salinas criticized efforts by the Trump Administration to reduce federal protections for public lands. She stated, “Our national treasures belong to the American people, not to the highest bidder. The Trump Administration is trying to roll back protections for nearly 60 million acres of our public lands, threatening the communities that rely on them. I’m speaking up against their attacks.”
The following day, Salinas addressed economic pressures faced by families in Oregon. On May 14 she posted, “The cost of raising a child in Oregon is $17,400 higher than it was last year. Childcare is becoming increasingly unaffordable under President Trump, but I am fighting to make sure that parents can spend more time with their children and less time worrying about costs.”
Later on May 14, Salinas highlighted her involvement in mental health advocacy during Mental Health Awareness Month. She wrote, “May is Mental Health Awareness Month, but awareness alone is not enough. People need access to care. I was proud to host a @NewDemCoalition roundtable with fellow legislators and stakeholders on the state of mental health services and how Congress can advance this issue.”
Andrea Salinas has a background in state politics prior to her tenure in Congress; she served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 until her election to Congress in 2023. Born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently residing in Tigard at age 53, Salinas earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994.
