Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress and previously served in the Oregon House of Representatives, has recently addressed issues related to youth mental health and healthcare funding in rural communities through a series of posts on her social media account.
On September 23, 2025, Salinas highlighted the urgent need for expanded mental health support in schools, stating, “Our youth are facing a mental health crisis that cannot be ignored. We owe it to our students to meet them where they are with the resources they need. That is why I introduced a bill with @RepBrianFitz to expand school-based mental health services staffed by qualified, trained”. In a follow-up post on the same day, she added, “Providing on-site care will empower students with the necessary support to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Later that evening, Salinas criticized proposed Medicaid cuts affecting Oregon’s rural communities. She wrote on September 23, 2025: “Let’s face it: the Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill puts Oregon’s rural communities at risk. I visited Adventist Health Columbia Gorge Hospital in The Dalles to discuss how these harmful Medicaid cuts will affect Oregonians. I will continue to fight until everyone receives the care https://t.co/fNTOqDAHV2”.
Andrea Salinas has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after representing constituents in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. Born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently residing in Tigard, she holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley (1994).
