Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who has represented Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, used her social media account on December 18, 2025, to highlight ongoing legislative disputes related to health care premiums and gender-affirming care.
In a post made at 18:16 UTC, Salinas stated, “There are enough signers on the discharger petition to force a vote to extend premiums, and if Speaker Johnson does not act NOW, 16,000 Oregonians in #OR06 are at risk of seeing their premiums SOAR.” The congresswoman referred to a discharge petition aimed at compelling a House vote to extend premium subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.
Later that day at 19:00 UTC, Salinas posted another message about actions taken with her Democratic colleagues: “Today, I proudly stood on the steps of the Capitol alongside my @HouseDemocrats colleagues to call out Mike Johnson for avoiding a vote on extending the Affordable Care Act premium enhanced tax credits. Speaker Johnson, do the right thing and lower the cost of living for our”. In this statement, she publicly called upon House Speaker Mike Johnson to bring forward legislation aimed at maintaining reduced health insurance costs for Americans.
Addressing another issue later that evening at 19:57 UTC, Salinas wrote about her opposition to proposed penalties targeting those assisting children in accessing gender-affirming care. She stated, “Yesterday, I spoke on the House Floor in opposition to a bill that would fine and jail parents and health care providers who assist children in accessing gender-affirming care. This bill will only worsen the youth mental health crisis and, disturbingly, invade children’s”.
Andrea Salinas was born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently resides in Tigard. Before joining Congress in 2023 as Oregon’s representative for its newly created sixth district—a position she assumed after serving from 2017 through 2023 in the Oregon House of Representatives—she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994.
