Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on August 29, 2025, to comment on a series of national and local issues including immigration enforcement, federal land protections, and affordable housing.

In a post published early in the day, Salinas criticized an incident involving federal immigration authorities. On August 29, she wrote: “ICE detained two firefights who were working to stop a wildfire. These people are risking their lives to keep communities safe. How does this make Americans safer? Every day this Administration finds a new way to show how backward and inhumane it is.”

Later that morning, Salinas addressed changes to environmental policy under the Trump administration. She stated: “The Trump Administration is undoing protections for 60 million acres of pristine wilderness across the country, including 2 million right here in Oregon. This is an incredibly shortsighted and backward decision.” The Trump administration has faced criticism from some lawmakers and advocacy groups for rolling back federal protections on public lands.

By the afternoon, Salinas highlighted her participation in a local housing initiative. She posted: “I was honored to join Polk CDC at the new Carson Commons supportive housing development in Dallas! I’m working hard to make life more affordable for Oregonians, and this project gives 20 young adults, veterans, families, and neighbors the stability and dignity that come with” The Carson Commons project aims to provide supportive housing solutions for vulnerable populations in Oregon.

Andrea Salinas has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after previously holding office in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. Born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently residing in Tigard, she graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994.
