Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on April 28, 2026, to address concerns over food assistance cuts and support for community colleges.
In a post from April 28, 2026, Salinas wrote, “47,000 Oregonians in need have already lost food assistance because of Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill. Because of Trump’s unaffordability crisis, folks depend on these benefits now more than ever to make ends meet.”
Later that day, she highlighted the story of an Oregon senior affected by reduced Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. In her tweet dated April 28, 2026, Salinas stated, “Dee, a 67-year-old, used to receive $291 in SNAP benefits, but now she only gets $44. Seniors like Dee should be enjoying their golden years. Instead, they are worrying about where and when their next meal is. Republicans are only making Americans hungrier and sicker.”
Salinas also acknowledged Community College Month with a message supporting educational institutions in her district. On April 28, 2026, she tweeted: “April is Community College Month! I want to honor the vital role these institutions play in opening doors to accessible, quality learning. In Congress, I’ll keep pushing for resources to support our community colleges and their students across the Willamette Valley.”
Andrea Salinas has represented Oregon’s 6th District since 2023 after serving in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. She was born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently resides in Tigard. Salinas graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994.
