Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to criticize the Trump Administration’s handling of immigration enforcement and its treatment of journalists. In a series of posts on February 3, 2026, Salinas addressed concerns over alleged abuses by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and announced new legislative efforts aimed at increasing accountability for ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

On February 3, 2026, Salinas wrote: “Instead of reining in an out-of-control ICE, the Trump Administration is investigating and harassing the journalists who are covering ICE’s abuses.

President Trump and his cronies’ assault on the press cannot be overlooked. I joined my colleagues in demanding answers.”

Later that day, she posted: “Our communities should not have to live in fear of the very people sworn to protect them. Enough is enough.

I joined @SenJeffMerkley and @RepDerekTranCA to highlight stories from victims of ICE overreach. Our new legislation holds ICE and CBP accountable for abusing our rights.”

In a follow-up tweet on February 3, 2026, Salinas encouraged readers to learn more about the proposed legislation: “Read more about our ICE and CBP Constitutional Accountability Act (2/2)”

Andrea Salinas has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after previously serving in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. She was born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently resides in Tigard. Salinas earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994.

The recent legislative proposal referenced by Salinas seeks to address concerns regarding civil liberties violations attributed to federal immigration authorities. Her public statements reflect ongoing debates over immigration enforcement practices and press freedom under recent administrations.
