Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on February 25, 2026, to challenge statements made by former President Donald Trump regarding tariffs and food assistance.
In a series of posts, Salinas addressed what she described as misinformation from Trump about the impact of his administration’s policies. On February 25, 2026, she wrote: ” Myth: ‘And as time goes by, I believe the tariffs paid for by foreign countries will…[take] a great financial burden off the people that I love.’ FACT: Hardworking families have had to pay, on average, an additional $1,745 since February 2025 because of Trump’s”.
That same day, Salinas posted another message referencing Trump’s comments about food assistance programs: “Last night, Trump spewed lies about some of his policies… let’s debunk a few of his claims. Myth: ‘In one year, we have lifted 2.4M Americans, a record, off of food stamps.’ Fact: Millions of Americans are at risk of losing food assistance because their Big, Ugly Bill”.
In a third post published on February 25, 2026, Salinas stated: “President Trump does not care about you or our neighbors who are just trying to provide for their families. @HouseDemocrats & I are doing everything we can to make sure that we put a full stop to Trump and Republicans’ extreme & harmful policies. Their manufactured chaos has to”.
Andrea Salinas has served in Congress since 2023 after previously holding office in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. She was born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently resides in Tigard. Salinas earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994.
