Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who has represented Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, posted a series of messages on her official Twitter account addressing issues related to family affordability, local student achievements, and mental health awareness.
On April 30, 2026, Salinas stated, “We should all agree that parents should be able to afford to pay for both their children’s healthcare and childcare. Full stop.”
Later that day, she highlighted a meeting with a local student: “I met with Emma Keen, a junior from the Oregon School for the Deaf, in my D.C. office. Emma represented Oregon at the National Endowment for the Arts’ 2026 Poetry Out Loud National Finals. #OR06 is so proud of your tremendous accomplishment!” The Poetry Out Loud competition is a national program that encourages students to learn about poetry through memorization and performance.
On May 1, 2026, Salinas addressed mental health support at the start of Mental Health Awareness Month: “Today is the first day of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, and I want to share a deeply personal story with you Call or text 988 if you or a loved one needs mental health support.” The number 988 refers to the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline established as an accessible resource for individuals experiencing mental health crises.
Salinas has served in Congress since 2023 after previously holding office in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. She was born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently resides in Tigard. Salinas graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
