Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted her legislative efforts on workforce development and immigration policy through a series of posts on social media.

On February 5, 2026, Salinas stated her commitment to expanding opportunities for young people in technical careers that support NASA and its partners. She wrote, “I’m committed to ensuring that young people have access to the tools needed for skilled technical careers that support NASA and its partners. My amendment, which passed in the Science Committee, encourages NASA to partner with the private sector to bring more young people into” (posted February 5, 2026).

Later that day, she addressed concerns about federal immigration enforcement policies under former President Trump and their potential impact on America’s STEM economy. In her post she said, “Immigrants play an important role in our STEM economy, but Trump’s unconscionable immigration enforcement tactics are threatening America’s competitiveness on the global stage. I proposed an amendment directing NASA to study the impact of these self-defeating tactics.” (posted February 5, 2026).

In another post from February 5, Salinas announced progress on two amendments she introduced in committee: “Yesterday, TWO of my amendments passed through @sciencedems committee. My amendments would: Improve coordination between government agencies on wildfire response & mitigation Create more direct pathways to good-paying jobs Support workforce development Read more below”.

Andrea Salinas has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after previously holding office in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. Born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently residing in Tigard, Salinas graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in 1994.
