Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, marked several significant occasions and paid tribute to a prominent Oregonian in a series of posts on February 17, 2026.

Salinas began her day by extending greetings for the Lunar New Year, noting her participation in local festivities. On February 17, she posted: “Happy Lunar New Year

I was in #Sherwood where I visited the Lunar New Year Lantern Festival to celebrate the Year of the Fire Horse with our #OR06 neighbors!

Later that day, Salinas acknowledged Mardi Gras celebrations around the world. In her post from February 17, she wrote: “Happy Mardi Gras!

Parades, merriment, and music are the hallmark of Mardi Gras festivities around the world. Laissez les bons temps rouler… let the good times roll!”

In a more somber message later that evening, Salinas reflected on the passing of Senator Avel Gordly. She stated on February 17: “I’m deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Senator Avel Gordly, a trailblazer who paved the way for so many of us in Oregon. Her courage, compassion, and commitment to justice left a lasting mark on our state. I’m grateful for her legacy and example. May she rest in power.”

Andrea Salinas has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after previously serving in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. Born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently residing in Tigard at age 53, Salinas is an alumna of the University of California, Berkeley.
