Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who represents Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on July 25, 2025, to address humanitarian and mental health issues.
In a post made at 21:23 UTC, Salinas called for federal action regarding the ongoing crisis in Gaza. She stated, “The Trump Administration must act to stop the violence and death in Gaza. Children and families are facing the impossible decision of dying by starvation or dying trying to seek food. The Gaza Humanitarian Fund isn’t capable of handling aid distribution. I’m joining my” (July 25, 2025).
Later that evening at 22:44 UTC, Salinas shared information about mental health resources available to those in crisis. She wrote, “As a reminder, if you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health crisis, please call 988 for 24/7 free, confidential help. You can be connected to a Spanish-speaking counselor by calling 988 and pressing 2. Cuando llame al 988, presione 2 para conectarse con un consejero de” (July 25, 2025).
In another message posted at the same time, she reflected on her personal experience with individuals undergoing mental health crises: “I’ve been on the other end of a phone call with someone who is having a mental health crisis. I see how important it is for people not only to have access to mental health care but also to be able to get the culturally competent care that meets them where they are. That is why I” (July 25, 2025).
Andrea Salinas has served as Oregon’s representative since January 2023 after previously serving in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 through early 2023. Born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently residing in Tigard, Salinas holds a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.
