Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, who has represented Oregon’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, posted a series of statements on December 17, 2025, urging Republican colleagues to support efforts aimed at curbing rising health care premiums.
In her first post of the day, Salinas wrote, “We just need three more Republicans to step up and help us stop skyrocketing health care premiums.” (December 17, 2025). Later that afternoon, she addressed House Speaker Mike Johnson directly: “Mike Johnson must bring this bill to a vote immediately. Anything less is a slap in the face to the millions of Americans who will see their health care costs increase next year.” (December 17, 2025).
By early evening, Salinas reported some progress: “Good news! 4 House Republicans have joined @HouseDemocrats in signing a discharge petition that would force a vote on extending the ACA tax credits. Speaker Johnson, have the courage to do the right thing and bring up a vote on our bill.” (December 17, 2025).
The statements reflect ongoing legislative debate over extending Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits intended to prevent increases in health insurance costs for Americans. Discharge petitions are procedural tools used by members of the U.S. House of Representatives to bypass leadership and force a floor vote on specific legislation.
Salinas’s advocacy comes amid her tenure as Oregon’s representative since 2023; she previously served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. Born in San Mateo, California in 1969 and currently residing in Tigard, Salinas holds a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.
