Clackamas County is temporarily waiving property tax interest charges on unpaid or late 2020-21 tax payments for qualifying businesses. Businesses must apply for a waiver by Dec. 7.
The property tax interest relief is aimed at businesses that were substantially affected by either the COVID-19 pandemic or the 2020 Oregon wildfires.
House Bill 2247, passed by the Oregon Legislature, allows for the Board of County Commissioners to enact this provision. Clackamas County Assessor Bronson Rueda recommended the action last week, and the board passed a resolution at the Sept. 8 Business Meeting.
“It’s important for qualifying businesses to act quickly because the application deadline for the interest relief is Dec. 7, 2022,” stated Rueda. “The legislature provided firm sideboards for a business to qualify for property tax interest relief through HB 2247. Visit www.clackamas.us/at for more information to see if your business may qualify.”
Businesses can apply for the 2020-21 property tax interest waiver, provided that:
- the real property is primarily used for business purposes,
- the business had no uncontested delinquent property taxes outstanding as of Feb. 15, 2020, and
- the tax delinquencies are substantially due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic or the 2020 Oregon fire season.
