Gladstone Library Funding Secured- The Clackamas County Commissioners unanimously approved fully funding the remainder of the funding shortfall (approximately $8.1 million) from the County’s reserves in the general fund. In addition, they will get the final construction costs in 60 days to provide certainty about completing the project. This is excellent news, and we are so excited to get this new library built in Gladstone. Please remember to thank the Board of Commissioners and County Administrator Schmidt for his fortitude in finding a solution.
Gladstone Public Works Facility Project- Staff updated the Gladstone City Council on the voter-approved Public Works Facility this week. P&C/SEA submitted the final bid documents and came in on budget. This took hard work by every team member from the P&C/SEA DB folks and the critical decisions/input the City made to outstanding leadership from SOJ as project management. We will visit the City Council at the February 14th meeting to approve the guaranteed maximum price contract. Once the agreement is approved, we anticipate construction to begin in August 2023, with substantial completion in April 2024. Gladstone Police Department K-9 Vehicle Has Arrived- in November 2021, the City Council authorized the purchase of a 2022 Ford F150 truck as a replacement canine vehicle. Due to the pandemic, supply chain issues, and the overall ability to build cars, the truck was not made. In November of 2022, we received notification that the truck (now a 2023 model) was being constructed and it arrived in Gladstone today. This truck is built with the required heavy-duty suspension and braking systems that are no different from our current patrol vehicles and are designed for K-9 use to include the appropriate storage needed. K-9 Nanuk is a law enforcement officer, and he and his handler, Officer Olson, deserve the proper protection to do their job safely and efficiently in the community. This vehicle was budgeted and paid for out of the current budget.
