Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, representing Oregon's 6th District since 2023, has recently shared a series of tweets addressing significant social issues. With a background in the Oregon House of Representatives and an educational foundation from the University of California, Berkeley, Salinas is focusing her legislative efforts on gambling addiction, mental health disparities among Black Americans, and youth empowerment against substance abuse.
On February 9, 2025, Congresswoman Salinas highlighted the issue of gambling addiction affecting millions of Americans. She urged action during Super Bowl Sunday by advocating for the passage of the GRIT Act. In her tweet, she stated: "Millions of Americans are struggling with a gambling addiction. This Super Bowl Sunday, let’s get off the bench and tackle problem gambling head-on by passing the GRIT Act."
The following day, February 10, 2025, Salinas addressed mental health challenges faced by Black Americans. She noted that they are "20% more likely to experience significant mental health challenges," yet only one-third seek treatment. Emphasizing collaboration to reduce stigma and improve access to care, she tweeted: "Black Americans are 20% more likely to experience significant mental health challenges, yet only 1 in 3 Black adults seek treatment for their symptoms."
Later on February 10th, Congresswoman Salinas welcomed Tualatin Together to her Washington D.C. office. She commended young leaders from Oregon's 6th District for their mission to promote a substance-free lifestyle among peers. Her message read: "I welcomed Tualatin Together to my DC office...You are all doing inspiring work to spread your message to our community."
