Andrea Salinas, U.S. Congresswoman representing Oregon's 6th District, has been vocal about her opposition to the DETERRENT Act. Through a series of tweets, she shared her concerns about the Act and highlighted problematic decisions made by the Trump Administration affecting both the workforce and food security.
In a tweet on March 27, 2025, Salinas explained her vote against the DETERRENT Act. She stated, "That is why I ultimately voted against the DETERRENT Act — because it is deeply unserious and ignores the reality that thousands of hardworking Americans are being fired by Trump and Musk for no reason at all."
In another statement released on the same day, Salinas criticized the Act for imposing "more burdensome requirements on an already decimated workforce at @USEdGov." She mentioned her amendment to reinstate workers who were allegedly fired illegally, which was met with opposition from House Republicans: "My amendment was simple: reinstate every worker who was illegally fired before we vote on this bill. But House Republicans refused to consider my proposal."
Later that day, she addressed a decision by the Trump Administration regarding aid delivery. In a post on March 27, 2025, Salinas stated, "The Trump Administration just halted millions of dollars in deliveries to food banks in Oregon and across the country. This reckless decision is going to put countless families at risk of going hungry and take income away from our growers."
