Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, representing Oregon's 6th District since 2023, has taken to social media to address issues concerning the Grand Ronde Tribe and Black Oregonians. Salinas, who previously served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023, shared her thoughts on legislative efforts and historical narratives.
On February 21, 2025, Congresswoman Salinas expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts with the Grand Ronde Tribal Council and her colleagues in Oregon. She stated: "I'm grateful for the partnership of the Grand Ronde Tribal Council and my Oregon colleagues as we continue to right the wrongs of the past."
In another post on February 21, 2025, she highlighted a significant issue faced by the Grand Ronde Tribe. Salinas wrote: "For decades, the Grand Ronde Tribe has been unable to freely hunt & fish on their ancestral lands — all because of an unfair consent decree they were forced to sign. My bill with @SenJeffMerkley would rectify this injustice & finally restore fairness for the Tribe."
On February 22, 2025, Congresswoman Salinas turned her attention to Black History Month by acknowledging the resilience of Black Oregonians. She noted: "Despite the barriers they faced, Black Oregonians built prosperous lives, families, and businesses during our state’s early history." She encouraged readers to learn more about their stories from 1840 to 1870.
