This month, Clackamas County received a Project Turnkey grant commitment for the purchase of a hotel or motel to establish transitional housing for people experiencing homelessness. This grant comes from the State of Oregon Legislature and is administered by the Oregon Community Foundation.
Households will be placed in a private hotel room while they are in the process of finding permanent housing. During this time they receive social services to help them get back on their feet and move on to permanent housing. On-site staff will ensure that participants have what they need and that the hotel remains a positive presence in the neighborhood.
Clackamas County is considering several potential sites throughout the county. County staff will speak to nearby community members and businesses in addition to conducting appraisals of properties, safety inspections, legal work and other due diligence before making a decision to purchase a hotel or motel.
The hotels under initial exploration are:
Clackamas Inn and Suites
6010 SE 82nd Drive
Clackamas, OR, 97015
Comfort Suites
15929 SE McKinley Avenue
Clackamas, OR, 97015
These addresses are subject to change.
Community members and businesses in the areas where hotel purchases are considered can contact the county to share their comments until Oct. 31 at www.clackamas.us/housingauthority/turnkey.
This transitional housing community is a crucial part of the path to exit homelessness in Clackamas County. The county has a severe shortage of affordable housing and is urgently creating new housing placements and affordable apartments. This transitional option is needed to move people off the streets more quickly and connect people back to housing solutions.
