At approximately 2:17 am on Jan. 3, Gresham Police officers and an assisting Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a report of a possible stabbing on the Cleveland Avenue MAX platform at 1250 NE 8th St. Witnesses reported seeing a significant amount of blood. The responding officers and deputy located the suspect, who was still on top of the victim, continuing the attack. Officers took the suspect into custody and called for paramedics to render aid to the victim.
The victim, a 78-year-old man from Hillsboro, suffered serious injuries to his head and face. Detectives confirmed the victim was not stabbed but the suspect had chewed off the victim’s ear and part of his face. The injury was so severe that responders could see the victim’s skull. Detectives are investigating whether illicit drugs played any part in the suspect’s actions.
Detectives believe the suspect gave the fictitious name of “El Baker,” but had to lodge him in jail under that name until authorities could confirm his true identity. Through fingerprint comparison, Multnomah County Jail staff were able to determine the suspect is really Koryn Kraemer, 25, who had recently moved to Portland from the state of Georgia. Kraemer was lodged on accusations of Assault in the Second Degree.
