GENERAL ELECTION, 2022
At the November 8, 2022 General Election, four City Council positions will appear on the ballot. The position of City Councilor is a non-partisan position, and although the positions are numbered, they are all elected from the City at large, meaning candidates may reside in any area of the City.
The City Council is an elected policy decision-making body for the City of Gladstone. The council serves with an equal number of “lay members” on the Budget Committee and hears land use appeals of decisions made by the Planning Commission. Council members also serve as liaisons on City advisory boards, committees and commissions.
The November 8, 2022 election ballot will feature Council positions 1, 3 and 5 and the Mayor’s position:
Council Position #1 Currently held by Randy Ripley Four-year term
Council Position #3 Currently held by Matt Tracy Four-year term
Council Position #5 Currently held by Tracy Todd Four-year term
Mayor Currently held by Tamara Stempel Four-year term
QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICE
To be qualified for office:
Must be a qualified elector (voter) under state law, Section 2, Article II, Oregon Constitution;
Must reside within the city for a least one year immediately before election on November 8, 2022 or appointment to office and remain a resident of the city during their entire term of office;
No person may be a candidate at a single election for more than one city office;
Neither the Mayor nor a Councilor may be employed by the city;
The Council is the final judge of the election and qualifications of its members based upon the City Charter.
FILING PERIOD DATES
Pursuant to Chapter 4.02.040 (3) of the Gladstone Municipal Code, the earliest a candidate may submit a declaration of candidacy with the City Recorder or designee is July 11, 2022. The closing date and time for filing all completed election forms, including petitions with signatures verified by the County Elections Office, with the City Recorder or designee, is August 30, 2022, at 4:30 pm. (August 23, 2022 is the suggested deadline to submit signatures for verification to ensure the City Recorder or designee has sufficient time for signature verification by the Clackamas County Elections office).
