North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District expands translation services for residents

Business

North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District (NCPRD) is now offering translation services in 82 languages to meet the diverse needs of its residents.

The district is making its programs and services more accessible using real-time language translation technology in partnership with software company Pocketalk.

Whether it is parents registering their children for sports leagues or seniors needing support from the Meals on Wheels program, all NCPRD visitors can use the technology to communicate their needs and wants to staff. This handheld, two-way translation device instantly recognizes and translates text, the written word, and signs, and enables users to have full conversations, even in noisy environments.

“The North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District serves a rich and diverse population with a multitude of languages spoken,” said NCPRD Director Michael Bork. “One of the diversity and inclusion barriers NCPRD faces is being able to effectively communicate and serve people for whom English is not their native language. Text-and-voice translation devices are just one way we can help make our services more accessible for our non-English speaking customers, so that everyone feels welcome and has access to our programs and facilities.”

District residents can access a device by visiting the front desk of an NCPRD facility. Learn more at https://ncprd.com/lets-talk.

The North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) is a service district of Clackamas County, providing parks, trails, natural areas, social services, programs, sports leagues and a world-class aquatic facility for approximately 108,000 district residents.
